How to Earn The Orange Daisy Petal
Earning the Daisy Girl Scouts Petals is a very rewarding experience for both the girls and the leaders! Daisy Girl Scouts are in Kindergarten and First Grade and are just getting started in their Girl Scout career. To earn this petal you can refer to the Girl Scout Handbook and also implement some of these ideas.
1£®The orange Daisy Girl Scout petal is the part of the Girl Scout law that means "Responsible for What I Say and Do." This is a very important lesson for anyone to learn.
2£®Talk with your troop about what it means to be responsible for things you say. Have they ever said something to someone that hurt their feelings? More importantly, did they apologize afterward? Explain that taking responsibility for your words and actions are a big part of being a better person.
3£®Create a chore chart for the girls to take home with them. A little homework assignment helps reinforce what is being taught through Girl Scouting. Make sure the chart is age appropriate. For example, I gave my Kindergarten Daisy troop a chore chart that I made up on my computer. The girls were asked to pick any three of the 7 chores I listed and complete each of them - without being asked - for one week straight. I also asked that parents signed the bottom so that it could be returned to me at the next meeting before giving out the petal. Chores I listed included, putting clothes away, setting the table, picking up toys and making the bed.
